This paperback article examines Ingleborough, the second-highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales and part of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. In particular, Hughes focuses upon carboniferous rocks, which are limestones, shales, sandstones, and coal deposits from the Carboniferous geological period.
Thomas McKenny Hughes was a Welsh geologist as well as the Woodwardian Professor of Geology at Cambridge University. In his lifetime, he wrote over fifty research publications and became the vice-president of the Geological Society in 1862.

Condition
In the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, front wrap is beginning to loosen and may detach with further handling. Paper is bright but has some discolouration and age-toning along margins and spine. Some spotting to wraps. A bit of edgewear has resulted in loss around the head of the spine and along front joint. Front hinge is very weak, while back hinge is tender. Internally, generally firmly bound. Binding is beginning to loosen, particularly towards the middle. Pages are very bright and clean, with a bit of age-toning to margins and the odd spot throughout. Prior owner has written in pencil on front folding map, and map has a few spots to the reverse. Black-and-white plates are very bright and clean.
