With the errata to the rear of all volumes and half-titles to all volumes. Illustrated, with a folding map to volume I. With twelve of fourteen folding tables to volume III. Therefore lacking two folding tables. Blind library stamp of Sir Richard Rawlinson Vyvyan, 8th Baronet (1800 – 1879) to the start of each volume. Vyvyan was a landowner and Tory politician. He was an advocate of Lamarckian evolution and transmutation of species. He wrote many scientific works such as 'An Essay on Arithmo-physiology' and 'The Harmony of the Comprehensible World'. This work is based on his Russian expedition of 1829. Two works were published on this expedition 'Fragmens de Geologie et de la Climatologie Asiastique' and this 'Asie Centrale'. 'Asie Centrale is dedicated to Czar Nicholas, because 'the expedition was accomplished at his expense'. In French. A very scarce record of this expedition.
Condition
In full calf bindings. Externally, smart with patches of rubbing to the joints and extremities. Handling marks to the boards. Front joint is strained but firm. Tape repair to centre of folding map to volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with occasional scattered spots to pages.
