This book is the first edition, in the original, unclipped dustwrapper. Richard Byrd was a pioneering aviator and polar explorer, who began his first Arctic expedition in 1928, with his second one beginning in 1934. On his second expedition, Byrd spent five months on his own, operating a meteorological station, an attempt that almost cost him his life. 'Discovery' tell of Byrd's personal experiences in the Arctic, from the exploration and scientific achievements, to the dangers he encountered. With twenty-two double-sided photographic plates. Label to the rear pastedown 'From the books of JW Robinson Co.' Collated; complete.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, with the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Light fading to the spine, with bumping to the spine and extremities. Very light markings to the boards. Label to the rear pastedown 'From the books of JW Robinson Co', and a faint pencil inscription '2.50'. Dustwrapper has edgewear and chips to the leaves and spine. Chip to the bottom of the front flyleaf, affecting the author's name. Front hinge is teared, but remains firm. Marking to the spine causing some discolouration. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout.
