Upon his return from service, the Retired Major-General turned to writing travel books of his travels, publishing his first book, 'Footprints of the Lion' in 1896. Due to the popularity of this work, Blaksley then published 'Travels, Trips, and Trots' in 1903. As related in this text he travelled widely, spending two years in the West Indies, passing through Greece, spending a summer in the Golden Coast, before travelling to Iceland. Collated, complete with twenty seven photographic plates and many vignettes throughout. Featuring prior owner's ink inscription to the front free-endpaper: 'Arthur E. Smith'.

In original publisher's cloth binding, with gilt detailing to front board. Externally, smart. Slight bumping to the extremities, joints and head of spine. Rubbing to head and tail of spine, resulting in a small loss to the cloth at the tail of the spine. Handling marks to spine and front and rear board. Rubbing to rear board. Prior owner's ink inscription to front free-endpaper. Front hinge slightly strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Some light spotting to the tissue guard of frontispiece, plate is clean. Handling mark to the verso of plate 'Gullfoss.', facing page 208.
