The second edition of this French translation, based on the third Italian translation. A French translation of the original Italian text. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and eight plates. Collated, complete. Collated from Jisc from a copy held at the Victoria and Albert Museum Libraries. This work describes the western third of Pompeii. This work was written during a great period of activity in the excavation of Pompeii. The time this work was written in was an interesting one for Pompeii, as there were extensive excavation in the ancient lost city. The city was under series extraction of artifacts from the 1700s. The rediscovery of Pompeii was a phenomena. Originally written by Carlo Bonucci, an Italian archaeologist, and Director of Archeological Works in Pompeii from 1827 to 1837. Translated from Italian into French by 'G. J.'.

Condition

In the original calf binding. Externally, generally smart, with loss to the tail of the spine. Joints are cracked. Light bumping to the head of the spine and to the extremities. Light rubbing to the spine and touches of rubbing and maks to the boards. Small amount of loss to the spine label. Hinges are a little strained but remain firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with some odd spots.
