What Our Customers Say...
Folding Maps, Illustrated, Limited Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
A very scarce work. A limited edition work, limited to two hundred copies, of which this is numbered seventy-two. An interesting work on what is considered to be the first atlas, 'Cosmographia' or 'Geography' of Claudius Ptolemy. The work compiles the geographical knowledge of the Roman Empire in the 2nd Century. Ptolemy's work was highly influential on geographical knowledge. Illustrated with four folding maps to the pocket to the rear. Collated, complete. By Edward Lynam, the superintendent of the map room in the British Museum, and the honorary secretary of the Hakluyt Society.
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally with obvious tide marks to the boards. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Rear hinge is strained but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Small tidemark to the tail of the first few pages, and a few spots to the first few pages.. A little discolouration to Map 7 State 11 and Map 15 State 1.
