The first edition of the work. Complete with many monochrome photographic illustrations by Laura Gilpin. Laura Gilpin was a noted American photographer, best known for her work regarding American Indians, particularly Navajo and Pueblo. In this particular work Gilpin focuss upon the Mayan city of Chichen Itza in central Yucatan, Mexico. The work details Gilpin's camera study of the area and includes 117 photographs of the most important temples, as well as the present day life of the local people. Each photograph is accompanied by detailed description. A profusely illustrated work regarding a Mayan city, from a highly influential twentieth century photographer.
Condition
In a green cloth binding in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally in excellent condition with minor shelf wear only. Dustwrapper is worn with loss to the front of the wrap and additional chipping and closed tears to the extremities. Spotting to the wrap. Tape repairs to the reverse of the wrap. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with slight age toning due to paper used.
