Humboldt travelled extensively in the Americas and was one one of the first to describe the land from a modern scientific point of view. He was also one of the first to suggest the previous joining of the lands bordering the Atlantic Ocean. This work is a condensed narrative of Humboldt's journeys in the equinoctial regions of America and in Asiatic Russia. To this work W Macgillivray also analyses Humboldt's more important investigations. There is also a brief biography of Humboldt to this work, regarding his childhood and education prior to his voyages. Illustrated, with a portrait frontispiece of Humboldt and a further five illustrations.
Condition
In a half calf binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, generally smart with patches of light rubbing to the extremities and to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with instances of scattered spotting.
