Description

First Edition, Folding Maps, Folding Plates, Illustrated

Robert Walsh was a renowned Irish clergyman, historian, writer and physician who travelled extensively in Brazil, investigating the conditions of the slaves. His findings were published in this text 'Notices of Brazil in 1828 and 1829', where he detailed the manners and customs of the Brazilian people in an attempt to lead the reader to appreciate Brazilian culture, and promote the end of slavery in the country. This copy is the second volume copy only, lacking the first volume. With ten plates, each with a protective tissue guard, and a folding coloured map of 'Part of the Provinces of Rio De Janeiro and the Minas Gerais with the Author's Route'. This volume also features a reproduced sheet of music to the rear of the text.
