The first edition of the work. Presented in the original very scarce unclipped dustwrapper. A presentation copy stating 'To John Masefield from John Peel 29/X/57'. The work also contains John Masefield's bookplate to the front pastedown and contains his personal annotations, including suggested changes to the poems. Masefield was an English poet and author, who served as Poet Laureate between 1930 and 1967. Masefield was a prolific author, with his best known works being The Midnight Folk and The Box of Delights. J. H. B. Peel was a British journalist, author and poet, who wrote a number of works regarding farming and countryside. This particular collection of his works contains his popular poems Time To Go, Immortality and Rusty Theme. John Masefield, the former owner of this particular copy is quoted as saying that 'Mr Peel knows more than any other living man about the life of the English Countryside'. A unique example of this very scarce collection of poetical works, from the library of one of England's most celebrated poets.

Condition

In the original cloth binding in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally very smart with just slight shelf wear to the extremities. The odd handling mark to the boards. Bookplate to front pastedown. Ink inscription and personal book stamp to front free endpaper. Dustwrapper is very smart with the occasional closed tear and chipping to the extremities. Small area of loss, approximately half an inch in length to front of wrap. Handling marks to the wrap. Slight sunning to spine. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with just marginal age toning and the odd spot. Masefield's ink and pencil annotations throughout.
