Description

An Important Work, First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

The first edition of this work. Interesting account of Charles John Andersson's experiences travelling in Africa, most especially along the Okavango River in southwest Africa. Andersson reached the Okavango River on his expedition in 1859. On this expedition, he observed that river flowing towards the Kalahari Desert, which was an important geographical discovery. The river empties into a swamp in the Kalahari Desert. The Okavango River is a river in the southwest of Africa, and is the fourth longest river in south Africa. It runs for nine-hundred and ninety miles. Illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page, and fifteen plates. Andersson was a Swedish explorer and hunter, and is best known today for his published works accounting his travel experiences in Southern Africa. His other works include 'Lake Ngami', 'The Lion and the Elephant', and 'Explorations in South Africa'. Drawn on wood by J. B. Zwecker, a German artists who contributed many illustrations to books and magazines in the nineteenth century. Engraved by G. Pearson. This work is an octavo. Collated, complete.
