'Surveys of Gower and Kilvey' is a reproduction of historical survey documents, edited for the Cambrian Archaeological Association between 1861 and 1870.
This well presented work includes the Survey of Gower, the land evaluation that was undertaken as part of the Cromwellian Parliamentary Survey in 1650. These surveys were initiated by Cromwell in order to evaluate the worth of the Crown or Ecclesiastical estate lands that he had confiscated. The main objective was to 'identify all landholders in each manor, determine how much land they held and how much rent they paid'.
Edited by Charles Baker and G. G. Francis, the latter of whom was Welsh antiquary and civic leader who helped to form the Cambrian Archaeological Association.
Dated using editor's preface as well as Jisc, from an identical copy held at the University of Oxford Library.
Collated, complete.
