Payne-Gallwey authored numerous books on sporting history, theory, and practice, including this series 'Letters to Young Shooters', that was first published between 1890 and 1896 in three 'series': 'First Series: On the Choice and Use of a Gun'. 'Second Series: On the Production, Preservation and Killing of Game'. 'Third Series: Comprising a Short Natural History of British Wildfowl and Complete Directions in Shooting Wildfowl on the Coast and Inland'. This set contains the first two series, lacking the third. Copiously illustrated throughout with illustrations by the author, including a portrait frontispiece of Payne-Gallwey to the Second Series, with an accompanying facsimile of his signature. Featuring publisher's advertisements to the front of 'First Series'. This 'First Series' volume is a second edition copy, whilst the 'Second Series' volume is a first edition copy.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, bumped to extremities and head and tail of spine. Slight rubbing to joints and handling marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Slightly strained in places. Pages slightly age toned to extremities but bright and clean, with the odd spot and handling mark to the occasional page. Pages occasionally uncut throughout. Slight offsetting to extremities of portrait frontispiece, second series, not affecting image.
