What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

The first edition of this work. Published posthumously, this work was prepared for publication by William Bertram Turrill, an innovator in the field of Botany. Turrill worked at Kew and was responsible for creating a mathematical classification of leaf shapes. Illustrated throughout, with a frontispiece and twenty one coloured plates by esteemed illustrator W O Everett. Prior owner's name to the recto of front endpaper, Autrie Hayler (?). Their notes are written on note paper from 10 Cromwell Place, London. The notes are various plant names. Also loosely inserted is a letter to the previous owner regarding a trip to Kew from their friend. An article is loosely inserted by Dr C N Goulimis titled 'The Richness of The Greek Flora'. A lovely look at the plants of Greece, taken from the manuscript of Shirley Clifford Atchley. To the preface Turrill notes 'a valuable feature of the text is the inclusion, for te majority of plants, of the modern Greek name or names.'
