Discussing in detail balustrades, steps, courts, gateways, fountains, garden houses, treillages, sundials, orangeries, and more. Profusely illustrated throughout. Written by Gertrude Jekyll. Jekyll was a horticulturist, author, and garden designer who designed over four-hundred gardens around the world. She was a prolific journalist for 'Country Life' and 'The Garden', contributing many articles for garden enthusiasts. Also written by Christopher Hussey. Hussey was an authority of British domestic architecture, known mostly for his extensive articles from the 1920s onwards for the 'Country Life' magazine. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper.
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Some light loss to the tail of the front board. A little fading to the head of the front board. Minor marks to the boards and spine. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with only the odd light spot to the first and last few pages.
