Containing a botanical description of each plant, with instructions on its cultivation and details of its discovery or introduction to Great Britain. David Wooster was a notable botanist who notably served as the co-editor of 'Loudon's Encyclopaedia of Gardening and Plants' and himself wrote and edited several books of his own on botanical subjects. Published in the same year as the first one volume edition, this copy was originally released in eighteen parts in individual paper wraps. This set is lacking part 7, page 49 to 56 and plates XIX, XX and XI. With the title page, introduction, and list of contents to the rear of part 18. Collated with three beautiful coloured plates to each volume, engraved by Benjamin Fawcett after the renowned British watercolour artist of natural history and landscapes, Alexander Francis Lydon.
In the original paper wraps. Externally generally smart, with shelfwear and occasional bumping to extremities. The odd mark and light sunning to wraps. Part 1 sunned and marked, with pencil inscription by prior owner. Occasional split to head or tail of joints, but all reasonably firm. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned but bright and clean. The odd scattered spot to the occasional page. Pages occasionally uncut throughout.
