First Edition, Scarce

An extremely scarce first edition copy of this very early recipe book. Containing early recipes for Christmas Pudding, and suet pudding. This work is aimed at women and was a collective effort. The recipes were gathered by Mary Kettilby. 

The recipe for Orange Marmalade is to page 78. 

Recently rebacked, with the contemporary boards preserved. 

Collated, this copy is lacking two leaves being pages 207-210 which are provided in facsimile.

With the half-title 'A collection of receipts in cookery, physick and surgery'. 

In two parts, with coninuous pagination and register. The second part has a sub-title 'A Collection of Receipts in Physick and Surgery'. 

An important cookery work.

Condition

In a contemporary panelled calf binding. Rebacked, with the original boards preserved. Externally, sound, with patches of rubbing to the joints and extremtiies. Half-title is loosening slightly. P2-7 are detached but present. The rest of the work is firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Scattered spots to pages, heavier to the first and last few pages.
