This work expands on Henry Bourne's 1725 publication of 'Antiquities of the Common People', detailing important celebratory days throughout the year and the folklore behind them, such as Valentine's Day, St Paul's Day, and Candlemass Day. John Brand's work extensively expands on Bourne's, with many substantial annotations and appendixes. John Brand with an antiquarian and clergyman for the Church of England. His work was revised and enlarged by Henry Ellis, in 1813. With an engraving to the title page.

Condition

In the original half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally smart, with some wear to joints which are starting but firm. Slight wear to the extremities and to boards. Mark to the verso to the rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd scattered spot.
