What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding, Uncommon

Uncommon. Contains 'practical treatises' on 'fashionable games', including Whist, Quadrille, Piquet, Chess, Back Gammon, Billiards, Cricket, Tennis, Quinze and Hasard, 'in which are also contained the method of betting at those games upon equal or advantageous terms. Including the laws of the several games, as settled and agreed to at White's and Stapleton's Chocolate Houses'. Edmond Hoyle became an authority on the rules and regulations of numerous card and board games. His literary works on the subject saw numerous editions and resulted in the coining of the phrase 'according to Hoyle'.
