'Sir William Arrol & Co.' was founded by the Scottish civil engineer, bridge builder, and Liberal Unionist Party politician William Arrol in Glasgow in 1873. The company is best known for their construction of bridges, including the Forth Bridge and Tower Bridge in London. A first edition copy. 'Partly reprinted from "Engineering"', a monthly British magazine founded in 1865. Featuring a loosely inserted article from the 'Chambers's Journal', containing a biography of Sir William Arrol and a history of his firm by James H. Young. Copiously illustrated throughout with notable works of structures and engineering.

In the original cloth binding with gilt title and design to front board. Slightly bumped and rubbed to extremities and head and tail of spine. Slight fading to spines. Tidemark to upper extremity of front board. Handling marks to boards. Cloth partially split to head of front joint. Slight loss to backstrip to tail of spine, with cloth lifting. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front free-endpaper. Very faint tidemark to gutter of contents page, offset to facing page. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean throughout.
