A collection of plates intended to accompany George Adams' 'Essays on the Microscope'.
The plates are detailed and show deconstructed microscopes, and figures of structures than are
visible through a microscope.
George Adams was an influential mathematical instrument maker, inventing the lucernal microscope. Adams was the mathematical instrument maker to George III.
Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the title page, 'Rich Harwood Moore, Bath'. Moore has annotated the work with notes referring to the images, annotations to plates 3, 4, 8, and plates 10 to 31.
Condition
In a half morocco binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Some minor marks to the boards. Light rubbing to the leather. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few light patches of rubbing to the boards. Front hinge has been reinforced. Small tape repair to the tail of the front endpaper. Two front endpaper leaves have been adhered to each other. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots and tidemarks. Prior owner's ink annotations to plates 3, 4, 8, and plates 10 to 31.
