What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

In the publisher's original binding. With the half-title. Harry F Witherby notes that this journey was undertaken for the purpose of expanding their knowledge of the birds and beasts of the Soudan. 'Birds being my special delight, received most attention, and I make no excuse for the amount of space occupied in discussing them in the following pages'. This journey to the Soudan was undertaken in the driest months of the year and Witherby was disappointed by the small number of mammals he came across. Witherby was accompanied by taxidermist C F Camburn for this journey. Henry F Witherby is best known for founding the popular magazine 'British Birds'. He also started one of the world's first two bird ringing schemes. His 'Handbook of British Birds' which spanned five volumes is a classic ornithological reference text and was extremely popular. With an appendix which provides a full list of the birds observed or collected. A very smart copy of this fascinating narrative.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with just some minor rubbing to the joints and extremities. Spine has faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
