The first edition of the first supplementary volume of the work, being volume four of a five volume set, entitled Medical Botany. Collated complete with 62 plates, being plates 212 to 274 plates. Plate 252 is closely trimmed. In need of a sympathetic rebind, but plates remain very clean and bright. William Woodville was an English physician and botanist, perhaps best known as an early proponent of vaccinations. Medical Botany is his magnum opus, and remained an important work for physicians throughout the nineteenth century. The work is credited for its details illustrations of the plants featured in the pharmacopoeias published by the Royal College of Physicians of London and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. An internally very clean copy of this important illustrated work of medical botany.
Condition
In a half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, front board and first leaf detached but present. Rubbed to boards and extremities. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Contemporary ink inscription to front free endpaper. Plate 252 is closely trimmed.
