A scarce edition of this work, which reached great popularity and was subsequently reprinted frequently. This second edition is much enlarged compared to the first edition. Rebound in a beautiful half calf binding with marbled boards. John Burns was a visiting surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary before becoming Professor of Anatomy and Theory at Anderson's University. This work, among many of his other titles, were issued to be text books for students. Burns shaped his career in being an authority on abortion and midwifery.
