What Our Customers Say...
Illustrated, Leather Binding
Being parts I-V of this eventual seven part work. Jean Appier produced the text and the engravings for this work. His father was an engineer for the Duke of Lorraine, and Appier himself was an artist. He collaborated with Francois Thybourel, the physician and mathematician to produce this work. A fascinating work, with sections on a variety of exploding devices including treasure chests and baskets of eggs. Collated, title page for part II has been bound as the title page for part I. Lacking the preliminary pages for part I, which starts at the text (C1, page 17). In-text illustrations throughout the work. This scarce work influenced Appier's later book on pyrotechnics 'La Pyrotechnie'. In the orignal French and in the original vellum binding. A very scarce and fascinating technological work.
In the contemporary vellum binding. Externally, generally smart. The vellum is slightly wrinkled. Several spots and marks to boards. Small loss to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned. Occasional light spots to pages.
