    This first UK edition of Herschel family scholar Gunther Buttmann's biography of celebrated British astronomer, mathematician and inventor John Herschel explores the building of a scientific legacy to match that of John's father, William Herschel, including many contributions to various fields of science and photography that resulted in Herschel being remembered as a polymath and leading figure in science at the time. First UK edition, in clipped dustwrapper. Featuring monochrome illustrations, collated complete. A wonderfully celebration of a remarkable man, Buttmann's 'The Shadow Of The Telescope' brings the historical figure of John Herschel vividly to life.

    In the publisher's original binding, with clipped dustwrapper. Externally, in excellent condition. The clipped dustwrapper is very smart, with some age-toning, some minor handling marks to the covers, and some shelf wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean, with only some minor handling marks in places.
