First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

This first edition of Robert Grant's 'History of Physical Astronomy' chronicles the study of astrophysics in the earliest ages to the mid nineteenth century, accounting in particular detail Newton's theory of gravity and research into other celestial physics. First edition. Undated, dated from copac and preface. Inscriptions to front and rear free end papers and pastedown, including gift inscription of previous owner: 'George Denham, from his affectionate uncle, W.G.D., Oct: 1874'. A detailed and thorough history, Grant's work celebrates the wide field of astrophysics from its humble beginnings to the contemporary advancements.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with shelf wear to the head an tail of the spine and extremities, and handling marks to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound, strained in places, including front and rear hinges. Pages are generally bright and clean with some age-toning and some spotting in places.
