Description

Folding Plates, Illustrated

The second edition of this work, which was published so that Elkington's knowledge was not lost due to his due health. To the preface it is noted 'Mr Elkington's health being extremely precarious, there was a risk that the public might lose the benefit of the knowledge he had acquired. by the experience of above thirty years' To 'prevent so unfortunate a circumstance' the Board of Agriculture sent the Edinburgh land surveyor, and author of this work, John Johnstone, to study Elkington. The intention of this work is to furnish the reader with satisfactory information upon the subject of this art and will sufficiently explain the various modes of draining land. Collated, complete, with nineteen engraved plates and four pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. An informative insight into nineteenth century pedology and land draining.
