A scarce work, written by Rene Aubert de Vertot, known as 'Abbe Vertot. De Vertot was a churchman and historian. This work narrates the rise of paper power in Europe. L'Abbe de Vertot was a pupil of the Jesuit Fathers seminary at Rouen before leaving to enter the Capuchin Order.
In a contemporary full calf binding. Externally, sound, with rubbing to the boards and spine. Loss to the head and tail of spine. Gilt stamping to the spine has faded. Prior owner's stamp to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, with just the odd spot.
