What Our Customers Say...

Description

Fine Binding, Illustrated

Ignatius of Loyola was a Spanish Basque Catholic priest and theologian who founded the Jesuits. This work looks at his life, and the movement of the Society of Jesus.

This work has a presentation inscription to the front endpaper 'Pamela McKenna from Francis Meynell March 10th 1913'. Francis Meynell was the co-founder of the Nonesuch Press along with prominent member of the Bloomsbury Group David Garnett. He was the Godson of  the author of this work, Francis Thompson. Meynell was named after Francis Thompson as Thompson was taken in by the Meynell family after being homeless for some time. Alice Meynell, Francis' mother, recognised the value of Thompson's writing and supported his career.  Thompson's tomb bears the last line of a poem he wrote for Meynell 'look for me in the nurseries of Heaven'.  The recipient of this book, Pamela McKenna (nee Jekyll) was the wife of Reginald McKenna, the British banker and Liberal Politician.

This biography was edited by John H Polle, a historian of the Protestant reformation and Jesuit.

Collated, complete.

A fine copy of this biography, which looks at the history of not just an individual, but an entire religious order.
