DETAILS

A very ornate and original binding for this large well printed mid 18th Century two volume dictionary of the French and German languages. Rare to see the two together uniformly bound.

Two volumes. Scarce as a two volume set, including both the French and German counterparts. Compiled by Peter Rondeau. Little is known of this lexicographer. Bound in a uniform calf binding, with gilt detailing to the spine. Dating from the first half of the 18th this set offers a comprehensive resource for the study of 18th century linguistics. A lovely example of these early European lexicons.

CONDITION

In a uniform full calf binding with gilt detailing to the spine. Externally rubbed to the head and tail of the spine, heavier to the extremities resulting in loss to the leather. Large patches of rubbing to the front and rear boards. Cracks to the front and rear joints of each volume. Lacking spine label to the German-French volume, with the label to the French-German volume partially lacking. Evidence of worming to the front and rear boards of each volume. Front and rear paste downs of each volume are starting to lift. Evidence of wax seals to the front and rear paste downs of the German-French volume. Light age toning to the front and rear endpaper, with light creasing also to the endpapers. Internally generally firmly bound, strained in places. Pages are lightly cockled. Page are generally bright with just the odd scattered spot.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to read and satisfy my request, and for your help with shipping the book to Bulgaria even before the expected arrival time in great condition. It really helped bring out the waterworks to a true Pratchett fan and make this a special celebration that she will remember.
