DETAILS

A beautifully illustrated work on the Comedie Francaise. In both English and French, this folio is in homage to the famed theatre's acting troupe. The first edition of this work.

Undated, dated using Copac. With the bookplate of married couple Henry and Mary Ponsonby. Henry Ponsonby was a royal court official who served as Queen Victoria's private secretary. Mary Ponsonby was the Maid of Honour to Queen Victoria at her wedding. In the original full cloth binding with decorative boards. With a facsimile of a letter from Alexandre Dumas to the Prince of Wales. This work is a biographical notice of all the Comedie-Francaise's 'Societaires' at the time of publication. A fascinating piece of theatre history. Complete with all 23 portraits, with a tissue guard stating the name of each individual.

CONDITION

In the original full cloth binding with detailing to the board edges. Externally, smart. Patches of light rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Fading to the spine. Futher patches of rubbing to the head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Heavy spotting to the tissue guards. The occasional light spots to pages.

Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed
