DETAILS

A complete four volume set of Sloane's informative and enlightening biography about Napoleon Bonaparte.

Complete in four volumes. The ‘Life of Napoleon Bonaparte’ is a detailed four volume biography by the French military leader and Emperor. Bonaparte’s name has become something of a legend throughout history, after he rose to prominence during the French Revolution, becoming the emperor of France in 1804 after the fall of the French monarchy in 1792 - 1793. This mammoth biography details his life, both personal and professional, from his youth in the La Fere regiment, to his rise to Emperor, to his death in exile. The biography also looks at his marriage and divorce to Josephine, and his ironic proxy marriage to Marie Louise, the great niece of the former Queen of France Marie Antoinette. William Sloane wrote two other books about French history, including ‘The French War and the Revolution’, and ‘The French Revolution and Religious Reform’. Sloane was the professor of Latin, then the professor of History at Princeton University. Volume 1 contains sixty-nine plates. The plates facing pages 77 and 157 are detached but present. Volume 2 contains sixty-nine plates, and 3 maps. The plate facing page 169 is detached but present. Volume 3 contains sixty-nine plates, and nine maps. The plate facing page 101 is detached but present. Volume 4 contains sixty-nine plates, and 2 maps. Collated; complete.
