Chambers' Cyclopaedia of English Literature: Containing a history, critical and biographical of authors in the English tongue from the earliest times till the present day, together with specimens of their writing. 

First edition thus, a new edition by David Patrick.

In three volumes complete.

Each volume is illustrated with portraits and facsimile and a frontispiece portrait to each volume, of Shakespeare, Samuel Johnson and Sit Walter Scott.

The first volume carries the history down to near the end of the seventeenth century; the second is mainly devoted to the men and women of the eighteenth century and the third volume those great writers who begun their work in eighteenth century and brings the cyclopaedia up to the 'present time'.

With a slip bound in to front of volume one listing some of the contributors to the present volume.

Previous Sir Campbell Stuart G.C.M.G., K.B.E. bookplates to front free endpapers.

CONDITION

In cloth bindings. Externally, generally smart but with some wear to extremities, slight rubbing and the odd mark to boards. Front hinges to volumes one and three tender, rear to volume three strained. Internally, generally firmly bound but with some pages loosening, one detached to volume one. Generally bright and clean but with the odd handling mark to pages.
