James Harrington (1611- 1677) was an English political theorist of classical republicanism, best known for his controversial work, The Commonwealth of Oceana (1656).

Oceana is Harrington's magnum opus and is an an exposition on an ideal constitution, designed to allow for the existence of a utopian republic. 'Oceana' was England and the 'Lawgiver', Cromwell, which lead to problems for Harrington and the suppression of this work until he found favour with Cromwell's daughter and a subsequent edition was dedicated to the man himself.

Much of the remaining Harrington canon consists of papers, pamphlets, aphorisms, even treatises, in steadfast defence of the controversial tract.

John Toland was the first person called a freethinker and went on to write over a hundred books in various domains but mostly dedicated to criticising ecclesiastical institutions. A great deal of his intellectual activity was dedicated to writing political tracts in support of the Whig cause.

Many scholars know him for his role as either the biographer or editor of notable republicans from the mid-17th century such as James Harrington, Algernon Sidney and John Milton.

The books have arrived safely!  They are all magnificent! I don't know how to thank you sufficiently for your generosity in giving me a very special discount for the three books.  If you really meant it when you said the discount is a Christmas present, I must say it truly is a superb gift from the kindhearted Santa Katherine! Your kind attention is another thing to commend.  Thank you indeed.   Also, I am impressed with the delivery.  It was so quick that i was dumbstruck when told early today i have a parcel from England at the mailroom.  Another thanks for this nice service. I could go on forever to say how your great services have fascinated me, but I know you are too busy for that.To end my note, please accept my sincere thanks for everything you did.  I will keep checking your inventory and make more purchases.
