Two hardbound volumes in blue cloth covered boards with gilt detailing to the spine and front boards.

These volumes contain many classic pictures including 'The Cornfield' by John Constable,works by Velazques, 'Dante's Dream' by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, 'Psyche in the Temple of Love' by Sir Edward Poynter, 'The Girl at the Gate' by George Clausen, 'Thursday' by W. Dendy Sadler, 'Motherless' by Arthur Stocks, 'Portrait of an Old Lady in Black, with White Cap and Ruff' by Rembrandt and much more.

Please not the volumes contain 92 plates as there are three missing from Volume 2 ('The Vigil' by John Pettie, 'The Last Chapter' by J. Doyle Penrose, and 'A Summer Night' by Albert Moore), and five missing from Volume 1 ('Heads of Angels' by Reynolds, 'Truth' by Jules Joseph Lefebure, 'Portraits of John Arnolfini and Joan Cenani' by Jan Van Eyck, 'Venus and Cupid' by Velazquez, and 'La Source' by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres).


The bindings are tight and firm with all covers and pages securely attached although the front inner hinges are slightly strained. There is some wear to the extremities including slight bumping to the corners and tops and tails of the spines, and rubbing to the boards. Internally the pages are generally clean and bright with the occasional handling mark and some spotting. Eight of the pictures are detached and missing, as listed above. There is an ink signature to the front blank endpaper of each volume. Overall the volumes are in good only condition.
