What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

The Hull Photographic Society was originally founded in 1884 and continues to this day, continuously providing facilities for its members to pursue their varied photographic interests. The 1927 and 1931 annual exhibitions of photography were held in the Hull Photographic Society Hall in Grey Street, Hull where the club operates to this day. The prints submitted to the 1927 exhibition were judged by Herbert Bairstow a notable British pictorialist photographer renowned for his bromoil transfer prints, whilst the Lantern Slides were judged by W. E. Gundill. The prints submitted to the 1927 exhibition were judged by Alex Keighley, a pioneer in the British pictorial movement in photography in the twentieth century. Keighley exhibited his work widely in Britain and in salons across Europe and America and was an important figure behind the formation of the Yorkshire Photographic Union, the first federation of regional societies in England. Keighley was the president of the union when he judged the 1931 exhibition in Hull. The 'Lantern Slides submitted to the 1931 exhibition were judged by J. C. Holmes. Each volume contains a programme and list of contributors to the exhibition. Featuring four tipped in photographic prints to the 1927 programme.
