The first edition of this work. This work discusses the history of English drama, focussing on the theatres up until the Elizabethan era, during which England saw a great uprise in the popularity of the theatre in England, due in part to William Shakespeare. With a history of Blackfriars Theatre. The Theatre is the name given to two theatres in the Blackfriars Dominican priory area in London. Written by Charles William Wallace, an American scholar, well known for his researches into English Renaissance theatre. His other works include 'The First London Theatre' and 'The Children of the Chapel at Blackfriars'.

Condition

In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, generally smart, though with a little lifting to the tail of the spine. A little edgewear. Minor discolouration to the spine. A couple of light marks to the wraps. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Pages uncut to the top edge.
