A collection of old poems and songs, set to music. Containing the songs 'The Passionate Shepherd', 'The Spanish Lady', 'In the Merry Month of May', 'The Three Ravens', 'My Lady Greensleeves', 'Sally in Our Alley', 'When the Bright God of Day', and more. Arranged and with accompaniments by Theo Marzials. Marzials was a composer and poet. He was well known for his eccentric behaviour, and also worked as the junior assistant at the British Museum library, though he retired at the age of thirty-two. Illustrated by Walter Crane. Walter Crane was known for being an artist and book illustrator, and was one of the most influential children's book creators of his time. He often illustrated children's books, including editions of 'The Frog Prince', 'Baby's Own Aesop', and 'The First of May: A Fairy Masque'. He was an admirer of the Pre-Raphaelites, Italian Renaissance, and Japanese art. Illustrated with colour illustrations to each page.
In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with pictorial paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Light rubbing to the extremities. Light marks to the boards. A small amount of loss to the boards close to the joints, not affecting image. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with some scattered spots. Institutional stamp to the verso of the title page, 'East Sussex County Library'. Small closed tear to the fore edge of page 21/22. Repairs to page 23/24.
