Leather Binding

Complete in two volumes (Copac) Bound by Andrew Grieve in a uniform calf binding. Collected and edited by David Herd, this volume being a page for page reprint of the 1776 edition. This particular anthology of songs is Herd's seminal work. In it Herd compiles a vast ranges of song and ballad from the country of Scotland. A useful work offering a interesting history of Scottish music and ballads. With an additional memoir and illustrative notes by Sidney Gilpin.

Condition

In a uniform calf binding. Externally spine is rubbed with loss to the gilt detailing. Light rubbing to the extremities. Corrugation to the rear board of volume II, affecting a large portion of the rear board. Front and rear hinges are strained to the reverse of the endpapers, at risk of failing. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
