He was known for his classical style, and composed more and six-hundred pieces during his lifetime before his early death at the age of thirty-five. Edward Holmes was a pianist and musicologist, who published 'A Ramble among the Musicians of Germany', 'Life of Purcell', and 'Analytical and Thematic Index of Mozart's Piano-works'. With a frontispiece two folding plates of sheet music. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the front free endpaper. Pencil annotation to the bottom of page 290, not affecting text.

Condition

In the original half calf binding with marbled paper boards. Externally, smart. Rubbing has caused slight loss to he spine, joints, and extremities. Head of spine is lifting but remains firm. Light rubbing to the raise bands. Minor marking and shelfwear to the marbled paper boards. Hinges are starting, but remain firm. Closed tear to the front endpaper near to the binding at the head and tail. Evidence of lacking the rear free endpaper. Internally generally firmly bound, thought slightly strained in places. Pages are bright with a very light touch of age-toning to the edges, and are generally clean, with the odd scattered spot throughout. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the front free endpaper. Pencil annotation to the bottom of page 290, not affecting text. Mark to page 300 and 301, causing light offsetting to pages 209 and 302.
