First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

In the publisher's original cloth binding with unclipped dustwrapper.

Written by two authorities on the subject, Mary Clarke and Clement Crisp. Mary Clarke is a ballet critic for the 'Guardian' and editor of the 'Dancing Times'. She was also the London editor of the New York Dance News. Clement Crisp was a critic for the Financial Times as well as the librarian and archivist of the Royal Academy of Dancing. 

Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, 'For Joan in Gratitude for all your Hard Work, George Xmas 1980.' 

Superbly illustrated with almost 300 designs, 35 of which are in colour. 

With chapters on Renaissance Spectacle, Rococo, Neoclassical and Romantic Staging, Modern Ballet, French Style Ballet, Russian Design. 

A beautiful explorative work on this important aspect of ballet performance.

Condition

In a full cloth binding with the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, excellent with just some minor shelfwear. Dustwrapper is also excellent. Prior owner's inscription to the verso of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean.
