Limited edition, numbered 299 of 315 copies. 

The first edition of this scarce work. 

Baskt was a member of the Sergei Diaghilev circle and the Ballets Russes, where he designed exotic, richly coloured sets and costumes. This work is adorned with examples of Bakst's work, with his rich designs.

Illustrated throughout with 68 plates, 52 being colour lithographs. Numerous vignettes throughout also, some colour and mounted.

Collated, complete. 

A scarce and comprehensive work with 240 pages on the artist's life and career progression. This work was written by Andre Levinson, a French dance journalist.

Condition

In the original vellum binding. Externally, very smart. Minor splits to the tail of front joint. Small loss to the vellum to the bottom edge of front board. A few light marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Tidemark to the first forty pages at the edges, and from pages 60-end only encroaching a maximum of 1.5cm into the pages. Heavier to the first few pages.
