First edition, in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper.

An anthology of Victorian crime and passion compiled from The Illustrated Police News, a popular Victorian tabloid which gave its readers real-life horror stories, published weekly. Some of their best-selling headlines included 'Shocking Death on a Welsh Mountain', 'Fatal Case of Elephant Tasing' 'Fearful Encounter with a Boa Constrictor' and 'Attempt to Drown a Supposed Witch'.

Compiled by Leonard De Vries in collaboration with Ilonka Van Amstel.

With illustrations to accompany the news stories throughout.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, lovely, with very light bumping to the extremities and minor shelf wear. Dust wrapper is very smart, with light edge wear and a small tear to the head of the spine. A touch of sunning and the odd handling mark to the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean.
