16 January 2017: Blue Monday

Feeling a little downcast today? You’re not the only one. Known as ‘Blue Monday’, the cold weather and post-Christmas blues come together to create what is allegedly the worst day of the year. In an effort to combat this, we’ve had a look through our library to find a few books that will hopefully brighten your day a little!

1910 Orchids for Everyone Charles H Curtis Coloured Plates Gardening

This lovely work is replete with beautiful illustrations of orchids- the perfect antidote to the cold weather!

1816 Fairburn's Comic Constellation Humorous Songs Very Scarce

This fascinating and very scarce work is a collection of humorous songs from 1816. The editor, John Fairburn, was renowned for his cheap chapbooks, meaning sadly most of them have since been damaged or destroyed.

1938 Nothing But Dogs K F Barker Illustrated Dog Care With Dustwrapper

This book is full of pictures of dogs. The author’s surname is Barker. If that doesn’t brighten your day then nothing will.
