What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Rebound

This is first edition, later impression copy of this work in book form. 'Master Humphrey's Clock' was originally issued serially in four forms: in eighty eight weekly numbers, in twenty monthly parts, in a three-volumes edition, and the issue in separately bound volumes of the two stories. This copy appears to be the three volume edition bound in two volumes, lacking the title page to volume III. The pagination of this copy matches the first edition first impression edition detailed by John C. Eckel in his bibliography 'The first editions of the writings of Charles Dickens and their values', but lacks the dedication to Samuel Rogers and the marbled page edges, suggesting it is a later impression copy. The work begins with a frame story in which Master Humphrey tells about himself and his small circle of friends and their penchant for telling stories. Several short stories are included, followed by the novels 'The Old Curiosity Shop' and 'Barnaby Rudge', that were later published as separate works Featuring the bookplate of Philip Worsley Wood to the front pastedown of each volume. Wood was a Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge and an elected member of the London Mathematical Society. Illustrated throughout by George Cattermole and Halbot Browne.

Condition
