'German Romance' is a collection of translated romances, including 'Musaeus', 'De La Motte Fouque', 'Tieck', 'Hoffmann', and 'Richter'. Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece and one plate, collated, complete. Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece and one plate.
'The Life of John Sterling' is an insightful biography, looking into the life of the Scottish author,who often contributed to 'Blackwood's Magazine'. Illustrated with a frontispiece, collated, complete.
Thomas Carlyle was a noted British historian ad satirical author, best known for his 'The French Revolution.

Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Some loss to the head of the spine of 'German Romance' Volume I. Minor marks to the boards and spines. Light spots to the fore edges. Bookplate to the front pastedowns. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with a few odd spots. 'German Romance' Volume I and II uncut to the fore edges. 'German Romance' Volume II frontispiece detached but present.
