What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, Early Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce, With Dustwrapper

'Five of Us - and Madeline' is about five siblings and their cousin Madeline who has just come back from India. It is a heartwarming children's tale, reminiscent of Edith Nesbit's famous other works 'The Railway Children' and 'Five Children and It'. An early edition, following the first edition in 1925. Nesbit is beloved for her classic children's novels, of which she wrote around forty during her life. She often wrote in a contemporary fantasy setting, which inspired many authors, such as Diana Wynne Jones, J. K. Rowling, and C. S. Lewis. Illustrated by Nora S. Unwin, a children's book illustrator. The illustration for the dustwrapper of this novel was her first commissioned piece, at the age of eighteen. With a coloured frontispiece, and a further six black and white plates throughout. Collated, complete.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, with the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Minor sunning to the head of the spine. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Minor shelfwear to the boards. The odd light spot to the fore edge. Dustwrapper has chip to the head of the spine and to the head of the front board to the joint, affecting the text only a very little. Very small chips and closed tears to the tail of the spine, with minor edgewear also. Tape repairs to the rear of the wrap. Light rubbing to the joints. A little marking to the wraps, due to the light colour, causing just a little discolouration. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with just the odd spot.
