What Our Customers Say...

Description

Early Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Uncommon

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, John Yates October 1960. The first reprint of this work, which was first published in May 1885. There are fragmentary recollections in Rossetti's correspondence to this work. This 'reading diary' has prose reflections and original poems for every day of the year. Christina Rossetti was a romantic, devotional author. Her children's poems 'Goblin Market' and 'Remember' remain famous to this day. Rossetti's popularity remained strong posthumously, as scholars studied Freudian themes in her work. She was a great influence to Virginia Woolf, Ford Madox Ford, Elizabeth Jennings and Philip Larkin. A very bright copy of this work.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Light shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. A few light marks to boards. Front hinge is strained but firm. Prior owners' inscriptions to the verso of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright. Just the odd spot.
