What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
First edition thus, the first Housman edition of this work. Blind stamp to the title page stating 'Presentation Copy'. 'Goblin Market' is a popular narrative poem which tells the story of Laura and Lizzie who are tempted with fruit by Goblin merchants. The illustrations of Laurence Housman complement this work beautifully. These pen-and ink drawings are strongly reminiscent of the style during the Golden Age of illustration at the turn of the twentieth century. Christina Rossetti was a romantic, devotional author. Her children's poems 'Goblin Market' and 'Remember' remain famous to this day. Rossetti's popularity remained strong posthumously, as scholars studied Freudian themes in her work. She was a great influence to Virginia Woolf, Ford Madox Ford, Elizabeth Jennings and Philip Larkin. A bright copy of this work internally.
